The education system in Guernsey is basically similar to that in England but is administered by the States Education Department. Compulsory school ages are 5-16 inclusive.
Primary Education is provided by both the private and state sector there is also provision for partially hearing or sighted individuals and mentally or physically disabled children on the island.
Secondary Education is provided by the private (single sex schools), a coeducational grammar school and four coeducational secondary schools situated around the island.
All schools provide courses leading to GCSE, AS and A Levels. Local further education is provided in the College of Further Education which offers a wide variety of evening classes, both vocational and recreational, in addition to full-time day-release courses.
